9/4/2023 0 Comments Ecosia dark mode![]() TLDR:They should be very similar in direct speed, but the FireFox extension I've created has a simpler UI and less 'unnecessary' code - but I can't say for sure about the speed as I haven't done a direct test, but I've been using the FireFox one for a long time now without issue. ![]() Google Search is still a legitimate alternative to Ecosia, but it might have issues that some users think are important. Themed after Google's dark mode, the add-on should be familiar to anyone wanting to switch to Ecosia. If you're noticing any speed issues with Stylus, I'd just simply give the firefox extension a try (be sure to disable the stylus theme override!) - it's easy enough to uninstall □ Dark Mode Google Search supports dark mode for comfortable usage in low light conditions. Save the planet and your eyes: Ecosia Dark Mode enables a custom dark theme for all Ecosia searches, giving your eyes a chance to rest while your searches plant trees. But if that's a game-breaker for you, I'd stick to the Stylus until this bug is fixed. I see this issue very rarely, at most maybe once a week, and a simple refresh of the page usually fixes it. There is currently a bug in the FireFox extension that means in very rare cases, the style is not applied to the whole page, you can track the bug progress here: DuckDuckGos regular site can take you to the dark web, as it brings up onion. The FireFox extension uses very similar logic to Stylus for actually applying the theme to the page - I haven't done a direct comparison, but I assume that the results would be very similar in terms of speed. Because of all those reasons I found myself frequently switching to Google inconveniencing myself, so I decided to just always use Google instead, I understand that. But both of these extensions are fairly light on the CPU. Incognito mode, all settings for Ecosia are reset in Incognito mode, Ecosia is a browser extension, so I disable it for Incognito mode in settings, its still in Incognito mode. The FireFox extension has a much simpler (and more lightweight!) UI aswell. So in terms of bloat and unnecessary code, Stylus has to deal with lots of other styles, translations, theme editing and more - whilst this may not necessarily massively affect performance, it does class it as less 'lightweight'.
